Harbour Island Bahamas
Java Cottage is quintessentially Bahamian and typical of old Harbour Island houses with its original painted wooden siding. As with Java House, the cottage has had a top to bottom, high spec refurb. All rooms are air conditioned and have WiFi. While the cottage is smaller than the main house its cosiness and charm make it a firm favourite with family and guests.
The characteristic mix of antique and modern sits perfectly with the bright, island style interior. There are two double bedrooms and a twin bedroom with a bathroom upstairs and downstairs. A fun feature is the crows nest right at the top of the house which gives you a fine view over the harbour, another perfect spot for sipping a cold one.
Between the cottage and the pool is a large deck with cushioned, banquet seating, dining table with large umbrella and a gas grill. The deck overlooks the 30’x15′ pool with a poolside fridge and an outdoor copper shower which is the best place to wash the sand off after the beach.
The kitchen is fully equipped with excellent appliances, marble countertop and all the other refinements you would expect. There’s enough china and cutlery for eight.
Leading off the kitchen is the dining area which makes up part of the large living area with a vaulted ceiling. There are six windows and four glazed doors leading out onto the deck.
The second floor is given up entirely to the master suite furnished with a kingsize bed where you can catch glimpses of the bay from the bedroom. The large bathroom features a romantic clawfoot tub with handheld shower cradle.
